XXII J-PAS Collaboration Meeting - China 20-23 October 2026

This gathering celebrates the continued success of the J-PAS survey in delivering unique, science-grade quality data that is helping to reshape our understanding of the universe. The meeting will also be a venue for discussing the powerful synergies between J-PAS and China’s current and near-future astronomical ground and space observatories.

A hybrid meeting

The meeting will take place all day, from 9:30 to 17:00 Shanghai time (UTC+8) at the Shanghai Astronomy Museum.

Because of the large time differences with the two other main J-PAS hubs, there will be two partial overlap windows:

• Brazil–China window (~1.5 h): 9:30–11:00 Shanghai time (22:30–24:00 in Brazil), at the start of each day.
• Spain–China window (~3 h): 14:00–17:00 Shanghai time (08:00–11:00 in Spain), at the end of each day.

These windows will prioritize live presentations by Science Working Group coordinators who cannot attend in person, and by other remote speakers who indicate availability.

Pre-recorded talks and dedicated Q&A

Instead of scheduling live remote talks outside the overlap windows, all sessions will be professionally recorded in four daily blocks. Recordings will be made available to the collaboration as soon as possible after each block, via links compiled in the J-PAS GitLab, so that colleagues in Brazil and Spain can watch the talks at a convenient time. Questions on any recorded talk will be answered in dedicated Q&A sessions on the third and final days of the meeting by the speakers.

Parallel J-PAS Brazil–Spain virtual sessions

In parallel with the Shanghai meeting, a virtual J-PAS Brazil–Spain session (2 hours per day) will be held at a convenient time for both regions, morning in Brazil, afternoon in Spain, outside the Shanghai venue hours. These sessions will be used to discuss the recorded talks and to prepare the questions for the Q&A sessions in Shanghai. The link to attend these virtual sessions will be sent to our Chinese colleagues for possible participation as well.

Connection information

Talks will be broadcast and recorded via Zoom (external link) with Tencent Meeting/VooV as a backup platform. For participants joining VooV from outside China, no installation is needed:

1. Go to the VooV Meeting User Portal: https://voovmeeting.com/user-center/join
2. Click Join Now / Join Meeting and enter the Meeting ID and your name.
3. When prompted to launch or download the application, select Join From Browser.
4. Allow your browser to access your microphone and camera.
